See you at the Crossroads! Young Carers say Lights, Camera, Action!

This summer the Spillers have had the pleasure of working with Crossroads Young Carers Project. Crossroads are a charity dedicated to supporting carers and the people who they care for. The organisation works with people ages 8 to 18 who care for a parent, grandparent or sibling who has a disability, mental health issues or a drug/alcohol dependency.

Communities First - Youth Work Project

We gained a new client and contract this summer-Careers Wales West! Careers Wales West employed Spill to create a Training DVD that was to be used in-house and equip staff with the skills in careers guidance.

Spilling Stories with Michael Sheen!

Spill has been busy working with the Dewis on a film project which has included working with Hollywood star and Welsh legend Michael Sheen. We trained some of the young people who use Dewis, in film-making and they each created a short film based on the theme-"I couldn’t live without". Within this project the trainees also got an opportunity to take part and film a "Q and A" session with Michael then visited some of their homes, which are sheltered homes and had a good chin-wag with a cuppa!

You have the choice...

'You have the choice' is a film made in partnership with the young people from the Afan Valley. In the Afan Valley deliberately started grass fires are a massive issue, not only causing devastating damage to the forest and its ecosystem, but also threatening human life and putting a massive strain on the fire service.

Spill produce a film for Consumer Focus Wales

Consumer Focus Wales is a statutory organisation campaigning for a fair deal for consumers in Wales. Consumer Focus Wales have recently brought out a report “From Care to where”; a report that examines the extent and nature of financial exclusion experienced by young people leaving care in Wales.

Spill welcome Meg to the team!

We have taken on a new recruit in the form of Meg Jenkins. Meg successfully gained a 10 week contract through the GO Wales programme. Meg will take on the role of Production Assistant and will work across a range of exciting projects.

Second Spill Trainee Films Sports Stars.

With the success of our recent community partnership with the Swans, the Spill Media presence has grown at the Liberty Stadium on match days. Following the link up at the start of the season, Tomos the first person to take advantage of the partnership, has been working closely with the Swans Media Team on match days. His role has included shooting voxpops with the fans, as well as taking photographs and filming the action at pitchside.

Soap Bocs

Spill Media trainees have recently been busy in production for a short drama, as part of our SoapBocs project. The challenge – to script, film and edit a short film in 5 days! The challenge was met, and with filming now complete, 'Nobody's Child' is in the early stages of post-production.

Spill Media are about to embark on a new and exciting project-Swansea Telly. Spill Media is one of the partners on the Swansea Telly project. Swansea Telly is a new and innovative collaborative Digital Inclusion Project which will involve partners from the Swansea Media Consortium, training minority groups in all aspects of media production, to create content for an online TV station- Swansea Telly.

Spill Media welcomes Chris in his role as Digital Media Trainer

Chris Reason will be joining Spill Media as a Freelance Digital Media trainer, who will be responsible for running the video production workshops as part of the Swansea Telly project. Chris is a hugely experienced digital media artist who will be an integral part of the Swansea Telly team.
Chris will bring a great deal of industry expertise and experience to the Spill Media team. He has worked on many commercial projects from TV adverts, music videos, music festivals, broadcast content and corporate videos.

SoapBocs Project

Spill Media are currently running SoapBocs a project where our voluntary trainees can let their imaginations run wild! We have challenged our trainees to script, film and edit a short film in 5 days. So far, so good! The trainees have written a dark thriller called Nobody'sChild" but we won't give the story away! We start shooting next week!

Spill Media link up with Swans

Spill Media and Swansea City Football Club have linked up as part of a Community Partnership that will see Spill Media trainees and work placements work in conjunction with the Swans.
The partnership sees Spill Media strengthen the opportunities that they offer in training and work placements, one of the main social aims of the company. As part of the community partnership, the Spill Media trainees will work closely with the Swans Media Department in providing match day coverage for their online channel, Swans Player.

Spill Media’s latest film, “There is an alternative – be co-operative”, was screened this week at the Senedd, home of the National Assembly of Wales.
In our latest commission, from the Wales Co-operative Centre, Spill Media worked closely with three co-operatives, Merthyr Tydfil Credit Union, Llanmadog Community Shop and Rygbi Gogledd Cymru, to create a film to connect with like minded organisations. The film was created to change perspectives on co-operatively run businesses...

Spill Media's Launch Event

Spill Media celebrated their success at becoming the first company in Wales to be awarded Social Enterprise Funding from Coalfields Regeneration Trust, at their Launch event last week. The event held at The Welfare, Ystradgynlais in South Wales and hosted by Bay Radio’s Jay Curtis was attended by a host of people from the business, voluntary and third sector. Spill Media launched our new digital media services and spoke about our business development plans and social aims.

Spill Media @ The Welsh Business Show

Spill Media spent two days filming and networking at the Welsh Business Show this month at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff. We got to meet lots of Welsh businesses and it was a great event to network and get our new name out to companies in South Wales and national companies too.
The Spill team are busy editing the footage and will be producing a promotional film about the show very soon. |

Spill Media commissioned by Touratech

Spill Media have recently been commissioned to carry out various projects for International Motorcycle Company TOURATECH. The first project saw Spill Media editing from the TOURATECH archive a 2 minute trailer promoting the TOURATECH Travel Event 2010. To see the trailer please visit: www.youtube.com/spillmedia
Another project saw Spill Media’s Caroline going out on a motorbike tour around South Wales. Caroline joined the bikers on a 100 mile round trip that spanned the Brecon beacons and Cambrian Mountains. This film is also available on Spill Media’s YouTube page.
